Winter is a wonderful time of year when the temperature finally cools down. It can get very cold during this season so it's important to protect your pet from the elements. The following suggestions will help keep your dog safe throughout the winter season:
- Keep cool, fresh water in a readily available place for your pet.
- Avoid hard exercise for your dog on really cool days. Instead, take your dog on easy walks. If your dog doesn't has a thick coat, consider a doggie jacket.
- Have your dog stay off materials such as asphalt, concrete, metal grates and ramps on really cool days – it's possible his paws may get frostbitten.
- Never leave a pet in your car since the temperature could get very cold in a very short time period.
- Ensure he or she has a warm place to relax when in the yard. Use a doghouse, tent or other structure with plenty of shelter.
You can ensure your pet has an enjoyable winter just by taking a few precautions.
