Summer is a wonderful time of year when the temperature finally warms up. It can get very hot during this season so it's important to protect your pet from the elements. The following suggestions will help keep your dog safe throughout the spring season:
- Keep cool, fresh water in a readily available place for your pet.
- Avoid hard exercise for your dog on really warm days. Instead, take your dog on easy walks. If your dog has a thick coat, consider wetting him down.
- Have your dog stay off materials such as asphalt, concrete, metal grates and ramps on really warm days – it's possible his paws may get burned
- Never leave a pet in your car since the temperature could get very warm in a very short time period. Even cracking the window will not be enough to keep him cool.
- Ensure he or she has a cool place to relax when in the yard. Use a doghouse, tent or other structure with plenty of shade.
You can ensure your pet has an enjoyable summer just by taking a few precautions.
