Cats Are More Than Furry Friends - They Can Also Be Your Friendly Pest Exterminator

Mice and rats cause a huge loss of food each year and cause numerous other inconveniences such as chewing through electrical wiring and leaving their telltale droppings. These determined creatures have even been known to gnaw their way through concrete, cinder block and aluminum siding! They can squeeze through cracks as small as 1/4 inch wide and are prolific breeders. Mice, rats and other rodents are not only found in our homes, but also supermarkets, restaurants, food manufacturing companies, farms and just about any other place where food is created, processed, stored or consumed.
Cats have long been used by farmers to control these pests. Think of the legendary "Barnyard Cat" strolling the barn floor and rafters looking for the wayward rat unlucky enough to cross the cat's path. Cats can also be a great aid at home by reducing and eliminating these unwanted pests without the use of harmful pesticides. Cats work well in groups, so the more you have the better results you'll see. One of the issues of course is the mess. We all know that cats can be lazy and after the thrill of the chase and kill are over, they may leave their hapless prey on your kitchen floor or bathroom. But I would argue a dead mouse is better than a live mouse that's eating away and contaminating your food.
